Plot

Set in 1922 Long Island, the tale follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway moving into a modest cottage next to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Intrigued by Gatsby's lavish lifestyle and mysterious persona, Nick discovers Gatsby's intense quest to reunite with his lost sweetheart, Daisy Buchanan, now wedded to the wealthy but disloyal Tom. The story takes a turn into unrealistic dreams amid social pressures. Through uplifting songs like "Roaring On," the musical weaves a tale of passion, deception and inevitable downfall.

Creative Team

This outstanding show is put together by a gifted team led by Ryan McCartan as the charming Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the ethereal Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the witty Jordan Baker, Linedy Genao as the fiery Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as the domineering Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock as the beaten-down George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as the cunning Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with energetic movement by Dominique Kelley and an original score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby - The Musical" debuted at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 prior to making its Broadway premiere in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, celebrating its opulent 1920s styles.
